Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Intelligent Engineering and Informatics (JIEI) follows a strict plagiarism policy to protect academic integrity and originality.

Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software before peer review or during editorial processing.

Unacceptable Practices

The following are not acceptable:

  • Copying text from another source without citation.
  • Copying figures, tables, or equations without permission or attribution.
  • Paraphrasing another work too closely.
  • Self-plagiarism or duplicate publication.
  • Reusing large parts of the author’s previous work without citation.
  • Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals.
  • Using fake or irrelevant citations.
  • Citation stacking or excessive self-citation.

Similarity Threshold

The JIEI does not rely only on a fixed similarity percentage. The editorial team evaluates both the similarity score and the nature of overlap. It should be below 15%. As a general guideline:

  • Low similarity with proper citation may be acceptable.
  • High similarity in methodology or common phrases may require revision.
  • High similarity in abstract, introduction, results, discussion, or conclusion may lead to rejection.
  • Direct copying without citation may lead to immediate rejection.

Action on Plagiarism

Depending on severity, the journal may take the following actions:

  • Request revision.
  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Notify authors’ institutions.
  • Retract a published article.
  • Ban future submissions for a defined period.
